Women Leaders in Sports and Falk College Collaborate to Support Women Professionals in Sports and Beyond
In honor of the new collaboration between Women Leaders in Sports and the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, the Women in Leadership Initiative hosted a panel discussion, “Women in the Sports Industry: SU and Beyond.”
Speakers included Women Leaders in Sports Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patti Phillips, Olympic gold medalist and Multiplying Good CEO Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, and Falk College Dean Jeremy S. Jordan. The group discussed the importance of supporting women in the sport industry and other male-dominated fields.
“Speak potential into a sister,” Phillips said. “Encourage each other to all go find what’s meant for us.” Phillips motivated the crowd with her enthusiasm to start her work with women students in sports-related majors at Syracuse University. In collaboration with Jordan, the team is focused on creating opportunities for students and developing women leaders in sports.
Mosley encouraged women to think like Olympians and always strive for continuous improvement. “Help people in organizations win gold medals in life,” Mosley said, emphasizing self-advocacy and supporting other women in their journeys. When asked about navigating the imposter syndrome so many women in the sports field face today, Mosley said she chooses to think, “Why not me?” It is that type of mindset and dedication to one’s work that she challenges all women to embody as well.
