As 2023 draws to a close, Syracuse University is proud to acknowledge its recent spate of accomplishments. Success has come in many forms—personal, professional, academic, creative, athletic. The result is a rich mosaic of experiences that reflects who we are and how we inspire others.
This year, the University has opened a new window onto the universe with pioneering research into gravitational waves and particle physics. We’ve also turned breakthroughs into lasting solutions—from opioid intervention and rehabilitation robotics to renewable construction materials. Underscoring our work is a relentless commitment to new and emerging technologies, like AI and Big Data; social responsibility; and student veterans.
Creativity drives innovation, which is the lifeblood of campus. Whether sharing the written word, inventing a prototype or launching a business, we thrive on interdisciplinary risk-taking and holistic problem-solving. This forges a sense of community that while steeped in tradition, embraces different cultures and heritages.
Probably no one embodies this spirit more than Otto, our beloved Mascot Hall of Famer. Otto has been everywhere in 2023, welcoming our new football and basketball head coaches and celebrating the crowning achievements of our men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s rowing programs.
From labs and libraries to classrooms and boardrooms, the University is more than a place; it’s an experience—a feeling that permeates our teaching, learning, research and giving. It helps us give rise to the dreams of others.
